How do we make cities more resilient to drought?
To make cities drought-resilient, we need to understand the interaction between trees, soil life, and water use. If we know how trees and their micro-organisms respond to drought in the city, we can make cities greener, cooler, and more resilient to climate change.
Thirsty Cities shows how fundamental research can contribute to solutions for urban challenges. This large-scale collaboration allows us to answer complex ecological questions, from field measurements to genomic analyses. The project builds on Leiden's scientific expertise in urban ecology and the large sequencing infrastructure eDentity. It connects biodiversity research to the design of sustainable, climate-resilient cities.
