About us

The Leiden Biodiversity Network is an initiative of researchers from Leiden University — including the Institute of Environmental Sciences (CML), the Institute of Biology Leiden (IBL), the Citizen Science Lab, various faculties, and the Hortus botanicus Leiden — together with Leiden University of Applied Sciences, Naturalis Biodiversity Center, and Leiden Kennisstad.

The network brings together more than 250 professionals and researchers, ranging from early-career scientists to internationally renowned experts. Together, they foster new collaborations, advance groundbreaking research, and develop innovative projects that contribute to a deeper understanding and stronger protection of biodiversity.

Building on this collective expertise, Leiden is growing into a leading biodiversity hub. With support from partners including the Municipality of Leiden and Leiden Kennisstad, the network develops innovative solutions to preserve and strengthen biodiversity: locally in Leiden, across the Netherlands, and around the world.
