Soils2Guts

How does soil affect our food and our health?

Soils2Guts investigates how soil microbiomes influence our gut health via food production and microbial transfer. It demonstrates how fundamental research in environmental sciences and microbiology can have a direct societal impact.

The project builds bridges between agriculture, ecology, human health, and governance by unravelling how microbes from the soil end up in our gut via our food, and how government policy can influence this.

The research brings together Leiden's unique expertise in soil and plant microbiomes with partners focused on human microbiome research. Soils2Guts shows how interdisciplinary science — from field to lab, and from soil to human — can contribute to knowledge for a healthier future.

Research with us and Taste your Garden (Proef je Tuin)
More and more people want to know where their food comes from, how it is made, and what it means for their health and the planet. Did you know that good nutrition starts with healthy soil? In the Taste your Garden project, you can investigate this yourself. Together with researchers from Leiden University, you'll discover how the soil in your garden influences the taste and quality of your harvest.
