Monitoring biodiversity at scale, in near real-time.
Using powerful technology, we can now trace DNA traces in the air, water, or soil — ‘environmental DNA’ (eDNA) — much more easily, allowing us to detect different species. 'eDentity' streamlines this process by connecting knowledge about eDNA and DNA barcodes. This makes it possible to monitor biodiversity at scale and in near real-time.
Naturalis and Hogeschool Leiden are building a national database of Dutch biodiversity. In the future, everyone in the Netherlands will be able to use this knowledge to detect and monitor biodiversity in soil, water, and air. This will allow municipalities, governments, and businesses to make faster and better decisions: good for nature and the economy.
