"We are changing the world, but we are not aware of it. We automatically adjust to the new reality and forget what once existed." The project 'Seeing Hidden Change' tries to refresh our memory and conducts historical research into changes in nature.
'Seeing Hidden Change' combines historical sources, museum collections, and molecular-ecological data to map historical changes in biodiversity, and to understand how these changes were perceived by people.
In this research, the Naturalis collection is combined with alpha-scientific research. The method being developed could serve as a blueprint for other studies in the future. It can offer a new direction in the study of historical-ecological change processes — and making hidden change visible.
