How and when do successful collective initiatives to restore nature work?
This research brings together scientists from the humanities, social sciences, public administration, and natural sciences to examine how and when successful, collective nature restoration initiatives actually work. We are discovering how to stop biodiversity loss in livestock farming systems in the Netherlands, Argentina, and East Africa, and how to bring species richness back.
The research takes place at multiple locations around the world, at the transition from high biodiversity (with a large, rich variety of plants, animals, fungi, and micro-organisms in the ecosystem) to low biodiversity (little variety). Leiden plays a prominent role in this international consortium.
